How to know when it's time to quit your job

About a year ago, I had no idea I was about to become a statistic.
After nearly a decade of serving at the cutting edge of the education profession, I began to crave more.
I felt like I might have given my best in my role then, and I wondered if my 10 years of experience and knowledge would be better used elsewhere within the company.
✔️ I started to contact co-workers to put out feelers.
✔️ I let middle managers and supervisors know of my interest in serving the organization differently.
✔️ I even took to social media.
I was hungry for upskilling and reskilling.
Unfortunately, those messages never quite stuck and six months later I left the company.
It was a tough decision to make. It's scary to up-and-go from a role you held for a decade.
But, I knew that I was already evolving in changing times even if the organization wasn't evolving with me.
According to a recent Amazon and Workplace Intelligence survey, my experience was similar to many.
➡️ 74% of young professionals said they were likely to quit their job in the next year due to a lack of development opportunities;
➡️ 64% feared losing their job due to new skills requirements which they didn't possess;
➡️ 58% felt their skills grew stale since the pandemic;
➡️ 70% of employees worry that they're not ready for the future of work
Reread those statistics to see what the REAL issue is.
The respondents are scared and nervous. They fear falling behind or stagnating due to a lack of development from their company.
And that was exactly the statistic I became, unknowingly.
I ended up quitting the company because the company wasn't growing with me.
I was ready to keep moving, it was not.
I had to leave to gain further knowledge, skills, and confidence to continue professional success in the ever-evolving workforce.
🎯 Key takeaway for companies:
Invest in your people.
You must do so to ensure the organization's progress, and it will create certainty among your employees.
Otherwise, they will leave out of their survival mode intuition.
🎯 Key takeaway for employees:
Though it's human nature to play it safe, leaving an organization to further your development, growth, and learning may be necessary.
Please don't wait for an organization to do that. The opportunities would have begun if it was truly invested in this area.
The world is advancing too quickly to remain stagnant.
Go for it!
